Here is a Bride’s Bouquet and as I was building it I just couldn’t seems to get away from the symmetry so I just gave into the design.

This is made from white Calla Lilies, Red Roses, and Italian Ruscus.

Well I have been busy this morning changing the look of my blog slightly. It is still a work in progress. Now, at the year’s end I thought I would post a couple of my favorite pieces from this last wedding season. I had the good fortune of working with some very creative and energetic brides!

This platter was fun to make and such a creative choice instead of a more traditional satin pillow.

What if all the Bride's Maids Bouquets were not matching? What if they were monochromatic instead? I loved this idea, the bride had all five of these colors in here bouquet with no white. Then each bouquet was made from one of those colors!

These antique Hydrangea are so lovely especially when combined with the Schwarzwald Calla Lilies.

I have officially moved out of my at home studio, which can now be converted back into my printmaking studio! Van/Go is in partnership with a new co-op space for artisans in downtown Louisville. The shop is called Luminary, 924 Main Street, Louisville, CO 80027. Please come downtown and shop your local business and see what your local artisans have been up to!

At Luminary l have bouquets from Colorado growers available in two sizes, Petite and Grande. Stop in for one of these Grab/Go bouquets. Next week my shipment of organic lavender buds should be available by the scoop and the following week lavender wreaths!

Place your order for an Colorado Grown Easter Bouquet with Asiatic Lilies, Queen Anna’s Lace, and Freesia. Order now at Luminary and the bouquet will be available in the shop, for pick-up, on Saturday April 11th, after 12:00 p.m.

Special orders are always welcome anytime, and avalable for pick-up in the shop on Wednesdays and Saturdays, depending. Van/Go can bring you all types of flowers from the far corners of the Earth: Thailand, South American, Australia, or on the continent, CA to FL, and even some flowers grown year round in CO greenhouses; And coming in June I hope to have seasonal offerings from a local organic farmer! Not your traditional Hand-Tied Bouquets

So you don't like carnations? I think they get a bad wrap. If used wisely and with other lovely blooms you would never really notice them. This bouquet is a combination of orchids and carnations with folded palm leaves.

This bouquet is hand-tied, but meant to be held across the arm. It has soft pink mini Calla Lilies with Waxflowers, and these great blooming pods.

It all started with the Hydrengea, with it' soft greens. whites with blushing of pink polka-dots. I had to build a bouquet with this! It has a strong assymetical shape, hot pink oses, Kermit Pom Pom Mums, green Coffee Berries, folded leaves and lime green raffia instead of the traditional ribbon. I love it, but it isn't for everyone!

Fall Brings Branches, Berries, Seeds, Pods, and Ornamental Cabbage

I love Ornamental Cabbage with it’s crisp purple - green leaves. This cascading bouquet has soft pink Calla Lilies, fragrant Stock, Spray Roses, Twisted Branches, and Snow Berries. This contemporary bouquet has beaded bear grass, purple Calla Lilies, Pom Pom Mums, Folded Palm Leaves, and these amazing berries. I am still trying to find out their botanical name. Until I find out their real name I am just referring to them as the purple pearls.

Words of Wisdom For the Waiting Room

Waiting Room Arrangement of Spider Mums, Moss and Freesia. I really enjoyed the inspiration for this arrangement which was coming across the metal wishing "stones" in a new bead store. Sometimes something small and simple spirals out into bigger ideas.

I find that some brides believe they are suppose to limit the number of flowers in their bouquets. I just don't believe you should be limited by contrived notions. Choose your flowers because you love their color, type, scent, symbolism, or personal significance. And choose as many or few as you would like! This bouquet includes: Mango Calla Lilies, Circus Roses, Rose Hips, Dahlias, Mums, Alstroemerias, Billy Balls, Wheat, Waxflowers, and yellow Kangaroo Paw.

Working with Chocolate Cosmos

These little flowers are one of the few that are close to brown or black, both odd colors in the flora world. Keep in mind their petals are fragile and the stems are short. They smell slightly like chocolate, so unusual?!

This arrangement is also made in the cream biodegradable container with organza and ribbons to dress it up a bit.

Late Summer Bouquet

I think that the Bride, who’s bouquet this is, did a great job using the abundance of late summer flowers and colors. Blue Iris, Blue River Delphinium, Circus Rose, Red and Orange Zennia, Moonshadow Carnations, and Safflower.

Notice the biodegradable container. I really like these as they are now made in the softer green color, as well as cream and brown. These containers are a green friendly alternative to glass, plastic or baskets that no will want the day after the event.

Sea of Sunflowers out to dry

The Full Sea

I am working on a wedding for a client in mid-September and have the great fortune to lay out all these sunflower heads to dry. How often do you get to create such an intense blanket of yellow? It gives me the same sensation I have when standing in front of Color Field Paintings, like a Rothko or Frankenthaler – these painters and their vast seas of intense and alive color. Working with flowers is like working with 3-D color for me, it’s like holding paint in it’s purest form. Oddly, considering where so many pigment bases come from, it is actually and truely holding paint in it’s purest form.
